Built in 1958
Classic was a yacht that joined the Sydney fleet in the 60's at time when the square metre yacht competition was growing.
The interest in the class from the 60's through to the mid 80's would arguably be the golden years for fleet racing square metre yachts on Sydney Harbour.
Ray Hutcherson owned Classic form 1961 to 1975 and thanks to his son John Hutcherson we are able to see some great images from that period.
Classic was the first cold moulded plywood sqm yacht to be built in Australia. She was built by the Steel Brothers in Lake Macquarie. It is believed a sister ship was also built and we are interested to find out more about her.
