Zephyrus the Submarine.

A few weeks ago Zephyrus took on too much water and she sank on her mooring.

She had some collision damage to her starbord side which had caused the incident.

The area she went down in was relitively shallow which helped with the refloating process.

Her refloat was succesfull and she was subsiquently slipped in Careening Cove.

The Best of Square Metre Yacht Silver.

Recently we were contacted by David Potter.
David’s late father-in-law crewed for John Hopcraft once in a local “Round the Island” race and remembered him as a most vocal helmsman !!

John Hopcraft was the first owner of the yacht Teal which was a highly successful yacht winning many events in English waters and later in Australian waters.
In 1938 John Hopcraft and his crew pushed Teal hard in the Round the Isle of Wright Race.  She raced against many craft of varied types with 49 entries under 25 tons and five entries over 25 tons.

With strong winds and choppy seas she managed to complete the race in 8hr 6mins with an average speed of 7.5 knots. Teals crew for the 1938 season had obviously been through some inspiring moments to take the time and expense of having a 10 inch long silver model of Teal created which was presented to John Hopcraft.

David Potter found the model in a jeweler’s shop window and has taken the time to contact us to let us know that the model is currently for sale for 6,000 Pounds.

A classic sailing yacht, possibly a Skerry Cruiser, is positioned on wooden supports at a dockyard, elevated above the water for maintenance or repairs. Yellow straps secure the boat, and a building is visible alongside the quay.

The great news is that she is getting lots of attention with several ribs replaced and 3 new planks.

Her hull has been sheathed and her topsides refinished so in time we hope to see Zephyrus racing once again with the rest of the square metre yachts.

A long, narrow white Classic Sailing Yacht covered with a grey tarpaulin is docked at a marina, moored alongside wooden posts. Other boats and yachts are visible in the background on calm water.

Larool nears completion with her launch date set for later this month.

She resembles her former glory and will surely turn heads as she slices her way around Sydney Harbour.

Her last coat of varnish is applied making a total of 12 coats..

A wooden Schärenkreuzer under construction is positioned on stands inside a workshop, with sunlight streaming through the windows and various tools and materials visible in the background.

The teak decking is finished with the blue masking ready to be romoved.

A wooden Skerry Cruiser with polished, striped decking and blue accents is positioned upright in a workshop, supported by beams on each side. Tools and materials are scattered around the workspace.

Next month we see her electric drive system installed…
