Launch Date: 1972

She was designed by one of Sweden’s best designers Knud H. Reimers who produced designs of many successful international 30 square metres.

The Lady In Red is a modernised version of the A 30 which complies with the rules of Archipelago sailing “the demand of sea-going excellence and comfort.”

Construction includes GFK I and first class fiberglass which satisfies the high demands on strength. The hull is constructed in one piece and the strength varies according to pre determined data and everything is professional and carefully built.

Originally equipped with a diesel Volvo Penta MD7 (13ps) with 110 S driving gear and collapsible prop.

Since the launch in 1972 the S30 underwent several improvements as far as the fit out and equipment were concerned but the basic concept wasn’t changed.

“The Lady in Red“…originally named “Madame Flame” was built in 1972 with sail number 5.

It was delivered to Mr Syd Muhling of Sydney Flame Pty Ltd in Perth.

Syd previously owned the 22sqm Flame that was originally owned/built by Vic Leggatt.

Madame Flame – The Lady In Red was built at Fisksatra in Sweden and approximately 300 of these were built between 1972 to 1981…all by Fisksatra Varv

In Sweden there are two S30 classes. One is called S30 classic and the other is S30 93. The differences are that S30 classic is unchanged but on S30 93 they allow movement of forestay about 60cm and whereby allowing a bigger Genoa and mainsail (battened).

The Lady in Red has just completed a restoration and is moored at Royal Perth Yacht Club, Crawley, Western Australia.

She has undergone a transformation and a new lease of life…her top sides are now painted white…much more suitable to the Perth climate !
